Watermelon 5K – Independence Day

Got up early and drove north of downtown to the City of Winter Park for the Hunter Vision Watermelon 5K. There were over 3,300 runners and we all got free watermelon! I increased my run/walk interval to 3min/1min and it felt great. Beat my previous 5K time...

Mid-June update

As I mentioned, tomorrow I go in for my 2nd surgery.  I'm looking forward to it and getting my intestines back to normal.  The worst part is having to stay in the hospital bed for 7 days. We are in the middle of our first hay cutting this year, don't know if we will...

Enjoying my new patio and fireplace

Family got together and built a new patio area complete with a fireplace.  Great spot to relax. Wine and fire is good for the soul.

Fireside at the Veitch’s

We all had a great meal the other night.  Appetizers of shrimp and scallops followed by ribs.  Sitting by the fire is a tradition that never fails to bring out good conversation and warm feelings.

Spring is here

It came about mid-month and the days have been getting warmer ever since.  We are well on our way to completing projects around the house, something we couldn't even thing about doing this time of year up in Meeker. Today I burned the irrigation ditches in the front...

3rd and final hay cutting

Skid Vicious has surgery

Sandi took her baby colt to have minor surgery done on his leg. He had a tendon issue that needed a slight tweak. All seems well and he is up and around only hours after waking.

Rode my bike to Work!

Had our first day of warm weather (65 degrees) so I decided to ride my bike to work. The Library is about 8 miles from home, but the first 7 miles is on the Henry Hudson Trail. The last mile or so is on surface streets but the traffic isn't too bad. It was dark coming...

Home to the Peacock in the previous post

Beautiful water feature at Magnolia Park.  I went to a bluegrass festival there last weekend and the views were nice, but the music wasn't to my taste.  Not your typical Bluegrass, more like toothless swamp folk singing colloquial lyrics about life.

Sad H1N1 Vaccine Story

I don't usually add stuff here unless it relates to our life somehow, but this is an exception.  My purpose in linking to this video is not to discourage people from getting the vaccine, but to show how strange the human body functions.  Keep in mind...

2nd hay cutting today

Main Street

I took this pic yesterday morning.

About an hour later my best buddy Panzer ran out of the house while I was loading stuff into the U-Haul. He wasn't gone but a few minutes. I ran down the long driveway to the road but I was too late. A loaded gravel truck had just gone by; didn't even stop. He was the...

Started a restaurant

It is now mid-may and we're still unpacking at home!  We have started a business as owners of the Flag Creek Cafe, located at the Meeker Golf Course. The startup is taking an inordinate amount of our time and energy, but after two weeks we are beginning to get our...

It Didn’t Explode!

It's the time of year to burn the fields in preparation for the new hay season.  I have a bit of pyromania in my blood so I always look forward to this task.  Armed with my LP tank and weed burner attachment I set out burning the field south of the house.  All went...

Spring in Colorado

Spring is trying... News on the work front.  For the past few years the company I work for, NC Telecom, has been battling cashflow problems stemming from a massive $12MM loan from the feds for rural communications infrastructure improvements.  Last year the stock...

Got a new camera

After 10 years or so without a good 35mm SLR I finally bought a Canon EOS 20D Digital SLR.  I'm having a lot of fun taking more photos, especially with the Canon 100-400L USM IS telephoto lens.

Stringing fence

Today I added some cross fencing to the horse pasture. It's easy. Just push in t-posts with the Bobcat , cover with the HorseGuard plastic sleeves, pop in the tape guides and string the electric tape.

Sharpening our Skills

We're starting to visit the Montrose Rod & Gun Club indoor (and outdoor) range more regularly.  Sandi is a natural with her Glock and Combat Commander.

Everyone seems to get butt-hurt so easily these days.  At least the Irish don't get offended easily. I don't see them demanding that Lucky Charms change their name or stop using the diminutive supernatural being in Irish folklore, the beloved...

Hyperlapse Video

About 7 minutes of Hyperlapse video of my 40 minute ride home from work at the Matawan Aberdeen Library. It starts off on surface streets for about 1.5 miles but the balance of about 6 miles is on the Henry Hudson Trail which parallels the Ocean, sometimes only a...
