Thursday, February 5, 2009 is National Weatherperson Day, commemorating the birth of John Jeffries in 1744. Jeffries, one of America’s first weather observers, began taking daily weather observations in Boston in 1774 and he took the first (hot air) balloon observation in 1784. This is a day to recognize the men and women who collectively provide Americans with the best weather, water, and climate forecasts and warning services of any nation. In honor of Jeffries, take a peek at DeltaWeatherCam if you haven’t done so recently

What a beautiful morning it was!

Today after more than 13 years we had to say goodbye to the 3rd of the original 3blackdogs. Skansen’s JA Bauer was a big, lovable brute that never seemed to grow up. He was always the low man on the totem pole but took it all in stride. A bit goofy, he often invited the disdain of both man and other beasts, but I don’t think he really had a mean bone in his body. His misbehavior around strangers was born of nervousness more than anything else, and he was a devoted friend to those few that knew him well. Like those that have preceded hm, he will be dearly missed.

We celebrated Christmas in Meeker with the Giaos. Drove up Christmas Eve and back late on Christmas day. Had to come home to tend to the animals. We did eat well.

It is not supposed to be this cold here in Delta. We are in Colorado’s banana belt. This is a snapshot from my weather station/web site.

Yesterday when I originally posted this it was -7.2. I updated it this morning (Thur the 10th) with this -12.8 pic.
