Not quite spring yet…

Not quite spring yet…

It’s been a cold and wet winter here in Delta compared to normal.  For us it’s still a lot milder than Meeker and we are enjoying it daily.  We get a lot of light snow that melts off the same day.  The temps are normally well into the 40’s by now but have barely broken 30’s recently.

I’m recovering well from my surgery except for a nasty abdominal incisional hernia that can be quite painful when it flares up.  My doctor doesn’t want to go in and repair it until I lose some more weight which means it will have to wait until late April or early May.  To date I’ve lost about 40lbs and I’m on a schedule to lose an additional 25 or 30.  Don’t worry, I’m not about to waste away to nothing.

I’m still working from home and that is going well.  I can handle almost anything from here and the staff in Meeker and Craig handle the customer face-time.  Hopefully I’ll be able to start driving there once a week by March.

We’re going to start our spring projects around here, including digging a pond.  I’ll take photos and post them here as we make progress.

Happy New Year 2008

Happy New Year 2008

It’s official, 2008 is here and Sandi and I hope it brings the best to everyone.

[taken with the online snapshot feature of my Canon Weather Cam]

From a personal perspective, Christmas could have been a bit more relaxing.  On Dec 16th after 3 days of abdominal pain, I was admitted at Delta County Memorial Hospital where I underwent emergency abdominal surgery for a ruptured intestine.  There I stayed until Christmas afternoon   when they let me go home in Sandi’s loving care  .  I went over 12 days without any solid food!  I’ll probably not be able to return to work until sometime in mid-January.  I have to tell you that having someone inside your belly hand washing and messing around with all your innards makes you a tad sore and irritable.  Everything is shaping up well now and at least I know that there won’t be any more diverticulitis attacks and there is no problem anywhere inside me now. Unfortunately I’ll have to endure life with a temporary colostomy for 6 months or so. What a pain in the ass 😉

The bankruptcy at NC Telecom is still in process and the court and main creditor (Ruraal Utilities Service, part of USDA) are putting the pressure on us.  The delay seems to be just getting our attorney and parent company to process and file the needed agreement to clarify and un-comingle the assets.  We really hope to offer a plan and assest purchase in the coming 4 months.

The new house is coming along very well.  The winter here isn’t near as burdensome as in Meeker and we can actually keep working on stuff outside most of the time.

Have a great new year and make it into whatever is best for YOU!

Getting settled in

Getting settled in

Believe it or not, we are still unpacking stuff.  I worked all day in the garage today and didn’t make a dent.

A few weeks ago I did get my weather station installed and it is operating with almost all features enabled.  I still have to hang the lightning detector, but the cams are up and watching over Delta.  The domain for deltaweather was already taken by someone in another state so I used DeltaWeatherCam.com:

Stop by and take a look at our weather!

We DID move!

We DID move!

We finally moved from the house in Meeker , we stayed there wishing we had something larger for almost 6 years.  Although we put a lot into it by adding outbuildings and recently built a barn/shop, it has always not quite met our needs somehow.  The land was hilly, not set up well for using the 15 ac. we had, and Sandi didn’t like the horses being so far from the house.  It was especially nice to get away from our neighbor who was quite a psycho .  We were fortunate that an oilfield worker that originally grew up in Meeker was moving back as were his parents, and he wanted to get a place with horse facilities and a shop.

Anyway, we are here in Delta, a much more temperate zone in what is often called the Colorado banana belt.  The property is a nice place with a bit larger home than we had, on about 13 ac.  The difference is that we have great water rights for the 10 ac. in hay, and the land is flat for the most part.  The home is newer and  we were able to empty our 4 rented storage facilities.  We are now opening boxes of stuff that we haven’t seen in 6 years, it’s like Christmas!

The other great thing about being here in Delta is that we have an actual town within a mile that has normal town stuff like stores, eateries, dog groomers, etc.  And if there is anything that isn’t here or we want more variety, Montrose is just 20 minutes away and Grand Junction is an easy 40 minute trip.

I’m still working at NCT but do a lot of work from home.  I drive to Meeker on Monday mornings (2:15 min) and usually drive back on Tuesday nights.  I can stay at a number of places in town with family or friends, or even at the office which had facilities including a shower.

I’ve attached an image below from Google Earth. (Blurb from Google:  Google Earth streams the world over wired and wireless networks enabling users to virtually go anywhere on the planet and see places in photographic detail.  This is not like any map you have ever seen.  This is a 3D model of the real world, based on real satellite images combined with maps, guides to restaurants, hotels, entertainment, businesses and more.  You can zoom from space to street level instantly and then pan or jump from place to place, city to city, even country to country.  Get Google Earth.   Put the world in perspective.

We may be moving…

Although we have listed the house for sale in the past, the market momentum has increased here and delivered a buyer.  We have a good, firm offer and the closing is set for July 2.  Of course we immediately went looking ourselves and we found a nice place in Delta, CO on California Mesa just a mile from town.  We’re excited but cautious since you never know how these thing will go until they are done.  It will mean the end of MeekerWeather.com, but I’ll probably start a station in Delta.  More details later.
